I’ve been working on this drawing a little at a time, a day here and a day there, so the progress has been rather slow. Today I decided to bite the bullet and get it finished.
I created the portrait using a 2B Staedtler Lumograph pencil, along with a 6B for the darker areas. The fine highlights were created with various sizes of eraser wedges and the overall blending was done with different sizes of rolled paper smoothing sticks. To work on the shading, I propped up the drawing on a lovely small wooden easel I received from a very dear friend, thus avoiding smudge marks with my hand.
I also decided to scan this drawing at various stages of completion, to show you the process of how it evolved from the initial line sketch to the finished work.
