Octavia

I completed the first drawing for a story I'm writing about the background tale of the Sea Witch from the “The Little Mermaid”. As with all my stories, I want to include illustrations that depict various scenes.

In this adult fairy tale, I imagined the Sea Witch as both beautiful and frightening; a creature who could mesmerize her victims solely with the blink of her eyes. So I decided to make her comparable to Medusa, but with tentacles for hair instead of serpents.

In my story, one of the paragraphs describes 'Octavia' as she rises out of the sea in the dark of night, staring at passengers on a ship. As she stares, transfixed by the merrymaking on board, the waves slowly carry her closer to shore when a butterfly descends from the night sky and lands on her head.

This is the first drawing for my story “Octavia”. Read Less
